Drive Fast and Safely – Tips from the Lamborghini Academy

  • by Anthony Kim Jr

Driving is an awesome experience especially when speeding. However, it is important to note that high speed is for people who are experienced and can drive fast and safely. Being a slow driver does not mean you are a safe driver and being a fast driver doesn’t mean you are reckless. This is why you need tips on how to drive fast and safely, and fast car maker Lamborghini has some very good tips for that:

Positioning Your Hands

Most people were taught that the best position to place your hands when driving is the 2 and 10 position (this is in reference to the numbers on a clock). Max Venturi, the chief test driver and driving instructor at Lamborghini, thinks that a 9 and 3 position will give you better control at high speed.

Positioning Your Feet

Though the positioning of the feet is obvious, Lamborghini experts point out that placing your feet in the right position is crucial. Since Lamborghinis have their gear shifts on the steering wheel and lack a clutch, drivers only use one foot to drive. The foot controls the brake and the accelerator while the other one rests on the foot support and provides balance to the one in control. Only go-kart and professional drivers can use both feet to control the accelerator and the brakes.

Braking Near Corners

Braking near a corner is one of the most important tips when you want to drive fast and safely. Max suggests that the braking should involve a hard braking followed by a gradual braking. You should start with the strongest part of the brake then move to the weaker part before you reach the corner. Accelerating before turning might be disastrous because the car will not turn in most cases.

Turning Corners

Turning a corner at high speed is one of the trickiest parts of driving fast. Mr. Venturi suggests that you should have completed the braking when you are turning a corner. Your foot should not be on the accelerator or the brake pedal; the vehicle should just glide through the tight part of the corner. The wheel should be turned towards the corner’s apex (the narrow part of the curve). After the turn is complete, you can straighten the wheel and start hitting the gas pedal.

Taking The skills To The Street

While driving on the tracks will help anyone with the speed and the skills to drive fast and safe, taking the techniques to the normal roads is a tricky affair. It might not be possible to drive with the same track speeds on the street; you can still drive faster, take corners better and be safe. You might not have a Lamborghini, but it is important to have an idea of how to drive faster and ensure that you, pedestrians and other motorists and road users are safe.

The next time you see someone driving fast, obeying the traffic laws and taking those corners like a pro, they might have been to the Lamborghini academy, or came across this post before you.
