  • April 4, 2014

Most Japanese cars are known for their fuel economy, performance and reliability. However, there is that special breed, that thoroughbred of cars, the sports variety that really ticks for the youth. There are many of them, call them performance cars of all time. They are all Japanese, sleek, beautiful and a must-have for any car collector. Most of the old sports models are still resilient on the road, and their sportsmanship is hard to miss.

Here is the selection of the top 10 Japanese sports of all time:

The 1969 Toyota 2000 GT

The 1969 Toyota 2000 GT is perhaps the oldest Japanese sports cars. For movie fanatics, even James Bond loved having a ride in one of this. You could probably remember such a ride if you watched the movie “You Only Live Twice”. Perhaps Toyota manufactured this model to imitate the Jaguar E whose model was almost similar.

The 1999 Toyota Supra

The 1999 Toyota supra was produced when technology was being widely used in the industry. Even the physical appearance could suggest that this machine was designed to race. It is powered by 3 liter inline cylinder engine that could produce up to 220 horsepower. With such strength and energy, you can always expect reliable performance from this sports car.

The 2006 Mazda Mazda-speed 3

Besides the economic attribute of the car, the 2006 Mazda Mazda-speed 3 hit the boards for being one of the fasted sports cars of its time. The machine turbocharged its engine and its good looks – the sticky tires, big rims and torque steer, could only confirm its super speed even without taking for a test drive. And when you did, well you would love it.

The 2003 Nissan 350Z

While it was new in the market at the time, the 2003 Nissan 350Z was not only affordable but was also admired by many for its sporty attributes. This car did earn quite a good reputation in the sports car industry.

The 2000 Honda S2000

With its 237 horsepower engine, Honda S2000 gained praise from many of its users. It balanced well between performance and speed.

Acura NSX

It is perhaps one of the exotic cars manufacturers from Japan ever produced. In all aspects, it can be defined as a super car in the same league as the super performers like Lamborghini, Ferrari and Porsche.

The 2010 Mitsubishi lancer GSR/EVO MR is considered one of the radical productions. With its duo clutch transmission and a 291 horsepower engine, you could expect great performance from this sporty car.

The 1993 Honda Prelude

If you have some experience with Acura NSX then the 1993 Honda Prelude is only one step or so behind in terms of performance, speed and even appearance. Even with the slight difference in the attributes, this machine was still admirable among many of its users.

The 1988 Honda CRX Si

The Honda CRX Si was the most admirable sporty car of its time. Every car buyer in the 80s wanted to have a test drive of this incredible machine.

The 1996 Nissan Silvia S15

The Nissan Silvia S15 was one of the popular and wild machines that Nissan produced during the 90s. With its 250 horsepower engine that was supported by a turbo charger, perhaps now you can understand why it was the sport car of its time.
