Top 5 Vehicle Adverts of the Year 2013

  • by Patrick Gioko
  • December 11, 2013

2013 has been a great year for car-makers. However, the slump in the global economy saw them come up with antics to make people buy their cars. As a result, there have been tremendous advertisements made and we just couldn’t let the year pass without bringing them to your notice. They are amazing, they will keep you on the edge of your seat. Some of them are like freak clips from the Fast and Furious series. every car commercial created for 2013 was meant to be a masterpiece.

Van Damme performing a split between two Volvo Trucks

This one tops the list. Renowned Martial artists and movie star Jean-Claude Van Damme cut an edge for himself in the advertising world as seen in the Volvo ad. The objective of this advert was to show the new and dynamic steering system in the Volvo trucks. Within a month of its airing on YouTube, it hit more than 40 million likes. The Volvo precision was amazing, especially as the two trucks were reversing and the epic split that JCVD did was breathtaking. This is set to be the most viewed short video on YouTube for 2013.

The underdog-turned hero kid in the Audi S6 commercial

Often, it is a special feeling that engulfs underdogs when they finally take control of their self esteem. In this commercial, an underdog kid, who finally ends up going to the adult prom by himself, develops great confidence which he never knew he had. This happens when he firmly holds the keys to his dad’s Audi S6. The discovery of self confidence in the kid is critical at this time. The viewer can easily be drawn from this powerful self esteem discovery in the commercial. Of course the objective is to promote the Audi S6 and its great power.

Willem Dafoe in the Mercedes Benz Commercial

Willem Dafoe is one of these actors whose influential acting brings out the ‘magic’ in the commercial. It is left to be seen that he is disturbingly good in his acting skills. The commercial portrays that it is possible to achieve desires in your dream yet promoting the Mercedes Benz. The winning point with this commercial is that it is nit so much about the car, but it is about the person watching the commercial.

Its Hyundai, like Sunday

Most people will not have seen this advert because it airs mostly on CNN. it is about creating brand awareness and it will come as a surprise for many Africans who ‘Africanize’ most of the words to fit their imagination. For example, most will pronounce Hyundai as hi-uu-ndai, while the actual pronunciation is h-a-n-d-a-y, like Sunday. It is one of the most memorable advert especially as you see the car cruising, happy family aboard and all. However, its the boardroom act that really does it, when the big name auto makers like BMW and AUDI are finally forced to say the name right when Hyundai wins top spot as the car of the year. Yeah, its Hyundai like Sunday.

Volkswagen Commercial

With the Monday blues, it goes without saying that most people do not like Mondays. The Volkswagen commercial brings a realization that people can always create happiness in their lives even in the often gloomy Mondays.
