Tech Gadgets in Long Distance Buses In Kenya – What Next?

  • by Anthony Kim Jr

The public transport sector in Kenya has many evolutionary stages but the good part is that all the changes and additions have been all geared towards ensuring that the passenger is comfortable. So, you are on a long ride from the capital city Nairobi to the cost or to the western side of the country, the ride will not take minutes, but more than 7 hours. Will the ride be a time to read some pages of the novel you have not completed in months, spend time reflecting about your life, talk to a rather boring passenger next to you or will it be a Kenyan style ride? This is the kind of ride that bridges the gap that has existed for a while between the comfort on the road and on a plane.

This might sound absurd but new Kenyan buses are breaking what is perceived as a norm in the passenger transport business. It is as simple as having everything that will make your ride one not to forget any time soon. Most people traveling in these buses lose track of distance and do not realize when the get to their destination. Why? … is a good question here. These long distance buses have all the gadgets that are known to keep today’s travelers on their toes with entertainment. The only thing that separates these buses from a standard airplane are the wings.

The Gadgets

To start you of, the bus will have an electricla socket with ports they can use to plug in their devices whether it is charging a mobile phone, an iPad or a laptop. This simply means that you will not go low on battery when on-board. The socket might not be the reason why we are focusing on these buses because they are common in other vehicles. What really sweeps you off your feet must be the Galaxy Tab 2 provided for all passengers. Imagine having your own touch screen to keep you entertained all through the long journey.

To ensure that everyone is enjoying their own interests, the tabs come personal headphones to prevent any interference from the person occupying the next seat. To crown everything, the bus has Wi-Fi. How cool is that? You do not have to keep scrolling your mobile phone to connect to social media or send an important email. You can simply use the Tab to do all these while enjoying some of your best tracks.

What Next?

With new gadgets being invented every single day, we can only sit and wait for the players in the public industry to come up with innovative ways to merge their world with that of technology. For now, we can only look at these new fascinating buses with awe and hope that whatever is coming next will be much more awesome and functional. With a few extra hundreds of shillings, you can enjoy, comfort, luxury, and entertainment all rolled up into one bus. Of course there are some downsides, which we will look at next, with some gadgets being blamed for road accidents.
